01 Coiling
CNC coiling machine
The springs are coiled according to the blueprint using a computer controlled high-precision coiling machine.
Despite it getting cut by plasma razor, an Ar atmosphere created around prevents the material from oxidizing.
02 Low Temperature Annealing (Tempering)
Continuous temper furnace
This process removes the residual stress generated at the time of coiling and recuperates the springs elasticity.
The spring builds up strength and elasticity so it becomes more resistant to sagging.
03 End Grinding
Double-headed automatic polishing machine
Both ends of the coilover springs are flattened using an automatic polishing machine.
Springs squareness is constantly adjusted throughout this process in order to keep its dimensional accuracy.
04 Measurement of squareness
The squareness is measured using measuring tools.
05 Shot Peening
Shot blasting machine
Small steel balls are nailed to the springs using one of the largest blast machines in Japan.
This process improves its durability and resistance to fatigue fracture by applying residual compressive stress, and by equalizing the surface stress which is often the root cause for springs fracture.
06 Straight Angle Correction
Craftsmen with more than 30 years experience carefully measure the coil springs one by one. A much more precise squareness than of JIS standard is realized, by those hands correcting the tiny angular misalignments.
This process is the true value of MAQS coilover springs. MAQS suspensions could not be completed without the long experience, extensive knowledge and skilled techniques of the craftsmen.
07 Secondary Temper Processing
Springs are put under another tempering process to remove any remaining residual stress, and therefore buildup resistance to sagging.
This extra step is crucial for making a coilover spring with strong anti-sag resistance.
08 Setting Process
Springs are put under a load exceeding their maximum allowable rate. This increases the elastic capacity of the material, removes any remaining sag, ant prevents it from sagging in the future.
09 Load Testing
Digital load testing machine
Springs are put to load test using a digitally controlled testing machine. Only products that pass this load test will be carried to the painting process.
10 Cation Electrodeposition Coating
Cation electrodeposition coating is a paint system that creates an excellent coating film. The object is immersed with electrodeposition paint which acts as the negative pole(-), and a polo plate, which acts as the positive pole(+), is placed inside the electro-coating tank. Then, by applying direct current in between them, the paint film precipitates to the object.
This paint system makes uniform film thickness, and a coating with a high rust resistance.
11 Epoxy/Polyester Powder Coating
After the cation electrodeposition coating, epoxy/polyester powder coating is applied to further improve its rust resistance. The springs acquire a beautiful orange look.
While many springs only get either electrodeposition coating or powder coating, all MAQs coilover springs get double-coated.
That way, our customers are able to use our products for as long as possible.
12 Final Inspection and Packing
After a final inspection, MAQs coilover springs are carefully packed in one by one, and sent off to our customers.
